You’ve got three choices for Mayor:

Don Alp

My name is Don Alp. I am a lifelong resident of the area. I went to Macphail public school K-8 and Grey Highlands Secondary School 9-12. I am an honest hardworking father of 3 boys and spouse to my lovely wife Crystal. I believe that working class people need working class people to represent their interests in government.

I have spoken with many working class, cottagers and business owner citizens of Grey Highlands and they have overwhelmingly told me that they want change in municipal government.

My goal as mayor is to represent working class interests. I want to reduce red tape regulations whenever possible and do everything that I can to make life and dealings with municipal government easier, straight forward, streamlined and honest. I really desire to listen to average people and take action on what I hear.

A vote for Don Alp is a vote for a new approach, a vote for hope for a better future and a message to career politicians at all levels that common people want their interests represented better.

Paul McQueen

I’m Paul, the current Mayor of Grey Highlands. I’ve been married to Cindy for 24 years and we have 3 sons; Matthew, Stephen and Jacob. We live on the McQueen Homestead where my ancestors settled the land in the 1850s. We are the 6th generation of farmers, farming over 500 acres of land, producing cattle beef, grain and hay.

I’m seeking re-election as your Mayor to continue to push for a fiscally responsible council that represents all the people of Grey Highlands. The job of council is to set Policy and give direction to the staff of the Municipality.  The job of the Mayor is to represent you, the voter, and preside over meetings and make sure the direction of council is carried out. I have this experience and can lead the new council forward.

I have served 3 terms on Grey County Council and have had the honour of being elected as the Warden of Grey County in 2020. As Warden, I presided over Grey County Council meetings and represented the County provincially and federally. I have been the Chair of the AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) board, sat on the MOU board (Memorandum of Understanding) which included meeting with Provincial Ministers to discuss policies.

I would like to continue to work with Council to oversee the completion of the Markdale Hospital, Beavercrest School, and continue to advocate for more beds for Grey Gables Long Term Care Home at the County. For more info visit paulmcqueen.ca

Danielle Valiquette

I was elected as a Grey Highlands municipal Councillor in 2018 where I serve as Council’s Environment and Council & Legislative Services liaison, on the Grey Highlands Public Library Board, the Grey Highlands Community Development Advisory Committee, the Joint Waste and Diversion Committee, the Financial Assistance Program Committee, as well as The Climate Action Task Force which has completed its mandate.

As a determined climate action advocate, I understand the urgent challenges facing Grey Highlands and beyond.I am committed to protecting agricultural land and wetlands, as well as planning for green growth without urban sprawl. I believe in working cooperatively with my municipal colleagues–both staff and Council; I stand against today’s divisive politics that impose a barrier to solutions that improve people’s lives.

I am a wife and mother of three kids. My family and I operate a small-scale swine farm near Ceylon, where we practice regenerative farming.

Before pursuing politics, I was a project manager and business analyst in the information technology sector. I have taught English, English as a Second Language, and Business Communications at three Ontario colleges. I am an entrepreneur at heart, and have created and led small businesses in the technology and agricultural sectors.

When I am not actively engaged with fellow citizens in building community, I can usually be found in my barn caring for my horses and pigs, with at least one dog by my side.
