Protecting Turtles in Grey Highlands

Ontario boasts eight turtle species, which is more than any other province in Canada. But that’s in danger of changing. Habitat loss and roadway casualties are leading to a decline in turtle populations.

We’re a volunteer education and outreach program, using resources from the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre and Turtle Guardians.

Turtle Nest Cages

Nest Cages are great way to protect turtle eggs from predators. So far, we’ve built to 12 cages and distributed them around the area!

New for 2025!!

The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority has launched a Turtle Stewardship Program to support two species at risk (Snapping Turtle and Painted Turtle) in areas across our watershed.

Turtle Team Safety Vests

To keep our volunteers safe, we’ve printed twenty “Turtle Team” safety vests. We want to protect our turtles, but we also need protect ourselves!
